David Oyelowo, Dominic West, and Lily Colins have been cast in the lead roles in the upcoming BBC mini-series adaptation of Les Misérables.

The BBC is bringing Victor Hugo's Les Miserables to the small screen and has announced an all-star cast.

Dominic West will play the leading role of Jean Valjean, while Lily Collins takes the role of Fantine. David Oyelowo will star as Valjean's nemesis, Javert, with Erin Kellyman as Eponine in the six-part series.

The cast also includes Adeel Akhtar and Olivia Colman as Monsieur and Madame Thénardier, Ellie Bamber as Cosette, Josh O’Connor as Marius, and Erin Kellyman as Éponine.

Speaking about the show, Dominic said: ‘Jean Valjean is one of the great characters in world literature. His epic journey of redemption is one of the extraordinary roles an actor can take on, and I can’t wait to get stuck in to bringing Andrew’s brilliant adaptation to screen.’

David Oyelowo said: ‘To play an iconic role like Javert is any actor’s dream, but to play it as written by Andrew Davies goes beyond my wildest dreams.’

Filming will begin in February in Belgium and France.
