The nominations have been revealed for this year’s BAFTA Awards and both musical films are in contention for recognition.

Frozen 2 goes up against Klaus, Toy Story 4 and A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon in the Animated Film category at the awards – with the winners being announced on February 2nd at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

It rounds off a successful few days for the film, with the next stage of Elsa and Anna’s story being confirmed as the biggest animated movie of all time – surpassing their first outing in worldwide box office takings.

The Lion King remake – which stars Beyonce, Donald Glover and Seth Rogen – is nominated in the Special Visual Effects category.

Visual Effects Supervisor Rob Legato says the film used “virtual-reality tools” in the computer animated adaptation to bring the characters to life on screen.

The movie faces competition from 1917, Avengers: Endgame, The Irishman and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker to get its paws on the trophy.

Overall, Joker leads the nominations with eleven nods, followed by The Irishman and Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood, which have ten each.
